On April 15, 2002, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Botox® for cosmetic use. Findings of numerous clinical studies confirm that the drug is safe and effective for wrinkle reduction.
Botox®, a purified, botulinum A toxin used to block nerve impulses and temporarily paralyze muscles that cause wrinkles, is safe and effective for nontraditional uses in facial rejuvenation, according to a study presented at the 70th Annual Scientific Meeting of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) in Orlando. Botox® can also be used in conjunction with surgeries such as forehead lifts, face-lifts and eyelid surgery; to combat migraine headaches; and to reduce hyperhydrosis (excessive perspiration).
Botox® is a proven method to smooth and reduce forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, and neck bands. Botox® works by relaxing targeted muscles. Typically, the effects of Botox® last three to six months and must be repeated to maintain results.
